At Dutch Total Soccer in NJ, we focus our summer soccer camps not only on futsal/soccer skills but also life skills. Soccer connects children from all different areas from simply the love of the game. At our summer soccer camps, your child will learn new skills while meeting other children who love soccer.

Soccer is commonly called a “beautiful game” because of all of the movement and plays that is played as players weave their way down to the goal. It also brings people together from all over the world. Soccer is played in 200 + countries and more than 240 million people play the game on dirt, concrete, in backyards or in professional fields. Because soccer is such a fun sport, most children don’t see the life skills they are learning while playing. At Dutch Total Soccer in NJ we find that during our summer soccer camps, private soccer lessons, or soccer leagues children are learning valuable skills that they will carry with them throughout their life.

What Life Skills Will Children Learn During Summer Soccer Camps?

Decision Making

Soccer is a players game and because of it’s fast-paced game, players have to make quick decisions on the fly without relying on guidance from their coach. Youth soccer players will learn how to handle many different situations while practicing so that during a game they can choose the right decision. Soccer also makes children reflect and evaluate after every game to see if there were other better decisions they could have made to have a more desirable outcome.

Soccer lets children feel empowered knowing that they are in control. They will also see the results of every decision quickly.

Social Problem Solving

As youth soccer players continue their soccer career they will learn that the game of soccer is not just about them and the ball. If any child tries to dominate the game, they will quickly get dominated and double teamed by the other team. Youth soccer players will realize they need to play as a team to be successful.

As soccer players rely on their teammates, they will start to see how they will be able to leverage people with different skills. If one teammate is really fast, while another teammate has a long and accurate pass they can use each other to score goals.

Responsibility

When children first start playing soccer, it’s normal to see every child chasing the ball around the field. As children gain more soccer experience, they realize they are more successful and effective as a team. They will also realize how important every position is and how when they are playing their specific position, it’s vital to the team’s success. Youth soccer players will start to see how when someone is out of their position, their team will lose control, get goals scored against them, etc.

Perseverance

When kids play soccer, they will learn that success isn’t easy and will need to be worked for. Soccer isn’t a sport that is known for scores to get into the high numbers, which is why there is such excitement for each goal that is scored. In soccer, it’s a huge accomplishment to score a goal. So many different things by every player need to happen in order for a goal to be scored.

Soccer will teach your child how to pick themselves up when things aren’t going well during the game or as your child is learning a new skill. Since children are still developing their coordination, it’s common for them to trip over their own feet or get knocked down during an intense play. When that happens, your child will learn to jump back up and get back into the game.

Why play futsal?

When kids are learning how to play soccer, they aren’t just playing a sport. Soccer will teach your child valuable skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, decision making, and how to think on their feet that they will be able to translate into their everyday life. They are also learning a game that will connect them with other children all over the world.
